SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Patons® Metallic™ (3 oz/85 g; 252 yds/230 m)
  • Hat Scarf Set
  • Pewter (95044) 1 1 2ball(s)
  • Crochet Hook: Sizes U.S. G/6 (4 mm) & U.S. H/8 (5 mm) crochet hooks or size needed to obtain gauge.
  • Scissors
  • Tape measure

MEASUREMENTS:

Hat: One size to fit average woman’s head.
Scarf: Approx 7″x30″ [18 x 76 cm].

GAUGE:

13 sc and 15 rows = 4″ [10 cm] with larger hook.

DIRECTIONS:

Hat
Ribbing: With smaller hook, ch 13.
1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of chain. Turn. 12 sc.
2nd row: Ch 1. Working in back loops only, 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
Rep last row until work, when slightly stretched, measures 22″ [56 cm]. Do not fasten off.
Join last row and 1st row tog, working 1 row of sc through both thicknesses.

Change to larger hook and proceed in rnds as follows:
Note: Ch 3 at beg of rnd counts as dc.
Ch 4 at beg of rnd counts as dc and ch 1.

1st rnd: Ch 1. Working along straight edge of ribbing, work 80 sc evenly around. Join with sl st to firt sc.
2nd rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in firt sc. *Skip next 3 sc. 9 dc in next sc. Skip next 3 sc. 1 sc in next sc. Rep from * to last 7 sc. Skip next 3 sc. 9 dc in next sc. Skip last 3 sc. Join with sl st to firt sc.
3rd rnd: Ch 4. 1 dc in firt sc. Skip next 4 dc. 1 sc in next dc. Ch 2. *(1 dc. Ch 1. 1 dc) in next sc. Ch 2. Skip next 4 dc. 1 sc in next dc. Ch 2. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of ch 4.
4th rnd: Sl st in firt ch-1 sp. Ch 3. 8 dc in same sp as last sl st. 1 sc in next sc. *9 dc in next ch-1 sp. 1 sc in next sc. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to top of ch 3.
5th rnd: Sl st back into last sc worked. Ch 4. 1 dc in same sp as last sl st. Skip next 4 dc. 1 sc in next dc. Ch 2. *(1 dc. Ch 1. 1 dc) n next sc. Ch 2. Skip next 4 dc. 1 sc in next dc. Ch 2. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of ch 4.
Last 2 rnds form Shell Pat.

Cont in pat until Hat from beg measures approx 8″ [20.5 cm], ending on a 5th rnd of pat.
Next rnd: Sl st in firt ch-1 sp. Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as last sl st. *2 sc in next ch-2 sp. 1 sc in next sc. 2 sc in next ch-2 sp. 1 sc in next ch-1 sp. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to firt sc. 60 sc.

Shape top: 1st rnd: Ch 1. *1 sc in each of next 8 sc. Sc2tog. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to firt sc. 54 sts.
2nd and alt rnds: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st around. Join with sl st to firt sc.
3rd rnd: Ch 1. *1 sc in each of next 7 sc. Sc2tog. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to firt sc. 48 sts.
5th rnd: Ch 1. *1 sc in each of next 6 sc. Sc2tog. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to firt sc. 42 sts.
7th rnd: Ch 1. *1 sc in each of next 5 sc. Sc2tog. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to firt sc. 36 sts.

Scarf
Note: Ch 2 at beg of row counts as hdc. Ch 3 at beg of row counts as dc

With larger hook, ch 34.
1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. *Skip next 3 ch. 9 dc in next ch. Skip next 3 ch. 1 sc in next ch. Rep from * to end of chain. Turn.
2nd row: Ch 3. 1 dc in firt sc. *Ch 2. Skip next 4 dc. 1 sc in next dc. Ch 2. (1 dc. Ch 1. 1 dc) in next sc. Rep from * to end of row, ending with: Ch 2. 2 dc in last sc. Turn.
3rd row: Ch 3. 4 dc in firt dc. *1 sc in next sc. 9 dc in next ch-1 sp. Rep from * to end of row, ending with: 5 dc in last dc. Turn.
4th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in firt dc. *Ch 2. (1 dc. Ch 1. 1 dc) in next sc. Ch 2. Skip next 4 dc. 1 sc in next dc. Rep from *, ending with: 1 sc in last dc. Turn.
5th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in firt sc. *9 dc in next ch-1 sp. 1 sc in next sc. Rep from * to end of row. Turn.

Cont in pat until work from beg measures 6″ [15 cm], ending on a 2nd row of pat.
Change to smaller hook and proceed as follows:

Divide for loop: Front section: 1st row: (RS). Ch 1. 1 sc in each of firt 2 dc. *2 sc in next ch-2 sp. 1 sc in next sc. 2 sc in next ch-2 sp. 1 sc in each of next (dc, ch-1 sp, dc). Rep from * to end of row, ending with: 1 sc in each of last 2 dc. 33 sc. Turn.
2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in firt sc. *Sc2tog. Rep from * to end of row. Turn. 17 sts.
3rd row: Ch 2. Working in front loops only, 1 dc in each st to last st. 1 hdc in last st. Turn.**
4th row: Ch 2. 1 dcbp around each st to last st. 1 hdc in last st. Turn.
5th row: Ch 2. 1 dcfp around each st to last st. 1 hdc in last st. Turn.
Rep 4th and 5th rows until work from dividing row measures 4″ [10 cm], ending on a 4th row.** Fasten off.

Back section: With WS facing, join yarn with sl st to first rem loop of 3rd row.
1st row: Ch 2. Working in rem loops only, 1 dc in each st to last st. 1 hdc in last st. Turn.
Work from ** to ** as given for Front section. Do not fasten off at end of last row.

Join sections: Align Front and Back sections.
1st row: Ch 1. Working through both thicknesses, 1 sc in each st to end of row. Turn. 17 sc.
2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in firt sc. 2 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn. 33 sc.
3rd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first sc. *Skip next 3 sc. 9 dc in next sc. Skip next 3 sc. 1 sc in next sc. Rep from * to end of row. Turn.
Work in Shell Pat until Scarf from beg measures 30″ [76 cm], ending on a 2nd row of Shell Pat. Fasten off.
